Amerks, Blades see action tonight

  • Oct. 13th, 2006 at 10:38 AM
Coyotes, San Antonio Rampage, Monarchs, Adirondack Frostbite, Elmira Jackals, Tallahassee Tiger Sharks, Beast of New Haven, Adirondack Ice Hawks, Ice Gators, Buffalo Sabres, Manitoba Moose, Orlando Seals, Broncos, B Cats, Florida Panthers, Red Deer Rebels, Carlton Bear, Minnesota Twins, Louisville Panthers, ECHL Logo, panther, Florida Everblades, WMU, Eagle, Rochester Americans, Roanoke Express

Both of the articles in today's Democrat & Chronicle are "Sabre-centric". With Adam Dennis now on the payroll, the bulk of the goaltending will fall to Dennis and the Panthers' Craig Adams. As expected, Panther prospect Jean-Marc Pelletier and the Sabres' Adam Berkhoel are only working with the extra players and will likely be "loaned" to other teams.

Pelletier is on a two-way contract with the Panthers and does not have to accept an assignment to the ECHL.

The Panthers have no enforcers on their roster...not even at the minor league level.

You don’t need to ask Bill Kinkel about his love for his family. The passion is written on his body.

The 22-year-old has his grandparents’ initials tattooed on his arms. Kinkel also has matching tattoos of his father’s first name on his obliques and his mother’s last name — CUDDIHY — down his spine.

“My family’s very important to me, so I try to represent them the best way I can,” he said.

A family man and a mama’s boy off the ice, Kinkel morphs into an intimidating enforcer on the ice.

Needless tosay Kinkel comes to the team from the Albany River Rats...

Kinkel replaces Brandon Coalter, who has also joined Lindgren on the Estero Fire Fighting squad.

Strange bedfellows, these Florida Everblades and Texas Wildcatters.

Starting today, the two South Division rivals in the ECHL’s American Conference are going to be seeing an awful lot of each other. Florida and Texas meet tonight at 7:30 in the first of back-to-back exhibition games at Germain Arena, then they’ll do it again for real a week later to officially open the 2006-07 season.

And in between, the Wildcatters are going to stay in Southwest Florida and finish up their training camp on one of the recreational rinks at Germain. Just how that will affect each team’s planning and ability to work on systems remains to be seen.

The two preseason games are to evalute the players in camp, so some - like Panthers prospect David Brine - already know they are not playing. Everblades head coach Gerry Fleming will be watching from the stands and will make the first of the team's cuts following the game.
