Florida Everblades forward Ernie Hartlieb is glad he's not the one making the decisions because he doesn't know what he'd do.

How do you keep three goaltenders on one team happy? How and when do you rotate them so they stay sharp and not lose focus? Which one of the trio starts on opening night?

"Don't ask me. Ask him," said Hartlieb, pointing to Blades coach Gerry Fleming. "We got three top-notch goalies that could be a No. 1 on probably any team in this league. Are we going to carry three goalies? I don't know. But it's a win-win for (the players). It's probably bad for the goalies because they don't know what's going on with three goaltenders."

I still say hanging on to three goalies will work until the first time we need an extra defenseman. Then one will become trade bait. Either that or one of them should try to skate defense once in a while to get himself more ice time.

No...don't look at me like that. If Korey Feiner can pitch and Brock Peterson can play second base, even if he can't turn a double play, one of the goalies can skate a shift or two on defense. It won't hurt them.

For goalies, three's a crowd

Another Florida Panthers prospect is set to join the ECHL's Florida Everblades.

Defenseman Martin Tuma was reassigned to the team Tuesday by the Panthers from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Rochester Americans. He becomes the sixth player under contract to the Panthers to be added to the Everblades' roster.

Tuma returns to the Everblades where he skated in 48 games last season, notching six assists and totaling 75 penalty minutes. The 21-year-old spent time with Rochester last year, playing in 12 games and picking up two assists.

Actually, he's been here, rehabing a separated shoulder suffered in rookie camp. Now I guess he's here to start the season, so I'll take him off the DL.

The Blades will be holding an intrasquad scrimmage this morning during their training camp session, which begins at 10 a.m. on the main rink at Germain Arena. The scrimage, as well as all practices are free and open to the public.

Also Hartlieb was on 99-X yesterday morning. If you missed the broadcast, you'll be able to hear it on "The Best of..." rebroadcast on Saturday from 8 to 10 am.

The ECHL and the Florida Everblades announced that on Oct. 20 it will be "Game On!" for the Premier 'AA' Hockey League as the Everblades and the ECHL's 25 member teams celebrate the upcoming season with the "Game On!" promotional campaign.

“Our goal is to make the 2006-07 season the best ever,” said ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna. “With the adoption of the NHL officiating standard, the speed, flow and excitement of the games promise to provide fans with a great on-ice product.”

The actual promotional campaign for the Everblades is "Check is out". I still think, given the re-signing of Steve Czech by the Blades, it should have been "Czech it out", but that just seems to go over everyone's head. "Game On!" How original.
