From a Toronto Marlies Press Release:
Whether or not you're a fan of the shootout, the Marlies certainly have found success with it this season.
For the second consecutive game, Toronto scored a shoot out victory with a 4-3 win in Cleveland against the Barons.
Jeremy Williams (16) scored twice for Toronto with Tyler Beechey (8) added a single. Patrick Rissmiller (13) had a pair for the Barons with Ryan Clowe (10) adding a solo marker.
Colin Murphy scored the shootout winner in the sixth round, his second goal of the shootout and second game in a row he has scored the shootout winner. J.F. Racine, who has been in goal for every shootout win this year, stopped five of the six Baron shooters.
Rissmiller opened the scoring for Cleveland just over six minutes into the first period when he batted a bouncing puck past Racine beside the goal. After a sluggish start to the game, Paul Maurice called a time out and rallied the troops to play a more inspired game in front of a very sparse crowd in Cleveland. The Marlies responded when Williams slapped a shot past the stick side of Nolan Schaefer to make it 1-1. The Barons out shot Toronto 17-9 in the first, but Racine made some key saves to keep the game even.
In the second, Beechey scored just over four minutes into second, when Mike Hoffman made a quick pass from behind the net to Beechey in front, when he tipped it past the leg of Schaefer for a 2-1 lead. Williams scored his second of the game three minutes later to take the 3-1 lead. The Barons rallied with a 5 on 3 power play, when Rissmiller scored to make it a 3-2 game.
Just over five minutes in the third, Rissmiller fed a cross crease pass to Clowe on the power play, and he had the wide open net to score and tie the game 3-3. It remained tied through the third and into overtime with a couple of scoring chances at both ends of the ice.
In the shootout, John Pohl and Jeremy Williams were both stopped before Murphy scored on a change up forehand shot through the legs of Schaefer. Racine stopped the first three Barons shooters before Rissmiller scored on a quick snap shot past the stick side. In round six, Murphy scored again with the same move, only going on his back hand this time. Racine then stopped Rissmiller on the final shot for the win.
Racine made 38 saves for the win, while Schaefer made 25 saves in the shootout loss.
Toronto was 0 for 3 on the power play, while the Barons went 2 for 7.
ICE CHIPS: Toronto is the only team in the AHL to not suffer a shootout loss this season....Defenseman Derrick Landmesser played his first game for the Marlies after signing a PTO contract. He's spent the last four seasons with the Memphis RiverKings in the Central Hockey League.... Toronto scratches were Brad Brown, Dominic D'Amour, John Mitchell and Chris St. Jacques.

From a Toronto Marlies Press Release:
The Marlies scored early and then rode the hot goaltending of Jean-Francois Racine to victory in a 2-1 shootout win over the San Antonio Rampage on Saturday evening at Ricoh Coliseum. Toronto is back in the winner's circle after being held pointless in consecutive games for the first time since late November.
Toronto opened the night's scoring for the fifth straight game when Brad Leeb deflected a Brendan Bell point-shot over the right shoulder of Rampage starting netminder Karl Goehring at 3:30 of the first period giving the Marlies an early lead. The power-play goal was Leeb's 22nd tally of the season, his highest total since recording 24 goals in 77 games with St. John's in 2002-03. Bell played one of his strongest games of the season in a game in which the Marlies continued to rely heavily on veteran defencemen what with four players at that position currently on recall to the parent Maple Leafs. The Ottawa native had six shots on goal and was named the game's third-star for his efforts. John Pohl also picked-up an assist on the play.
Following a scoreless second period, Randall Gelech tied the game at 1-1 when he lifted a shot over a prone J-F Racine from in-close at 4:09 of the final frame. San Antonio's Goehring was spectacular throughout the evening in helping his teammates get the game to overtime and then made six key saves in the extra-session. The Marlies had a full two-minute power-play when San Antonio defenceman Brad Tiley took an interference penalty 42 seconds into overtime, but they could still not solve Goehring. The Minnesota native's strong night finally went sour when John Pohl and Colin Murphy scored in the shootout to give the home-side the win. Racine stopped the Rampage's Mike Bishai, Layne Ulmer, Jeff Taffe and Eric Chouinard while earning second star honours in the process. Goehring was named the game's first-star in front of 3,219 fans in Toronto.</quote>

From a Toronto Marlies Press Release:
The Marlies return to Ricoh Coliseum proved to be their most disappointing home-result of 2006 as they fell by a 6-4 score to the Peoria Rivermen on Friday evening in Toronto. After concluding a ten-game road trip by garnering 12 of a possible 20 points last Sunday afternoon in Lowell, the Marlies were unable to keep a three-game home winning streak alive in losing at Ricoh for the first time since a 4-2 defeat to the Binghamton Senators on December 27th.
Toronto opened the scoring when John Pohl scored on the power-play at 5:33 of the first period. He picked-up a loose puck on the rebound of a Brendan Bell point shot and slid it around a sprawled-out Reinhard Divis for his team-leading 26th goal of the season. The goal matched Pohl's career high, achieved with Worcester in 2003. Brent Evans and Timofei Shishkanov tallied goals just over four minutes apart midway through the period to provide the Rivermen with their first lead of the evening. Bates Battaglia knotted the score at 2-2 when he closed-out the opening frame's scoring with his 13th goal of the year, on the power-play at 13:08.
Kris Newbury gave Toronto their second lead of the evening when his wrist-shot deflected off the stick of a Rivermen defenceman and past a surprised Divis at 2:47 of the middle stanza. Ben Ondrus and Brett Engelhardt picked-up assists on the play, the second of the evening for Engelhardt. The lead was short-lived however as Trent Whitfield tied the game at 3-3 when his shot eluded Marlies starting netminder J.S. Aubin 30 seconds later. Troy Riddle's 10th goal of the season with 6:45 remaining in the second period gave the Rivermen a lead they would not relinquish. Shishkanov scored his second goal of the evening for a 5-3 lead at 15:41 before Ian White's power-play goal pulled Toronto to within one exactly two minutes later.
Divis was a major factor in the victory having turned aside a number of quality scoring chances while the Marlies were on the power-play in the late going. D.J. King had the only goal of the third period as he tallied his fourth marker of the season with 3:09 remaining in regulation-time to give the visitors a two-goal margin. The game was played before 3,517 fans.

From a Toronto Marlies press release:
Some nights the hockey gods work for you and some nights they're against you. The latter was the case for the Marlies in the back end of a two game set with the Griffins.
Grand Rapids scored with 37 seconds left in the third period to rally for a 6-5 win over the Marlies in front of a sold out Van Andel Arena.
Eric Himelfarb (5), Bryan Helmer (8), Tomas Kopecky (15), Kent McDonell (13), Derek Meech (2) and Donald MacLean (29) scored for the Griffins.
Brett Engelhardt (5), John Pohl (23), Colin Murphy (6), Kris Newbury (13) and Jeremy Williams (11) replied for Toronto.
The game was a wild affair in front of 10,834 fans, which were silenced early when Engelhardt opened the scoring for Toronto 34 seconds into the game after Ben Ondrus and Kris Newbury forced the puck deep in the Griffins zone, allowing Engelhardt to snap a shot past Jimmy Howard. Thirteen penalties were assessed in the first period alone.
The Marlies would score quickly again in the second period, when Pohl netted a power play marker 1:33 in to make it 2-0. Four minutes later, the Griffins responded as Himelfarb found himself beside the net to tap home a loose puck and make it 2-1. Helmer then tied the game on the power play moments later. The Marlies would respond just over a minute later when Murphy scored to make it 3-2. Newbury added another to regain the two goal advantage for Toronto at 4-2. Four goals were scored in a span of six minutes. Then the full moon came out in Michigan. With less than three minutes remaining in the period, Kopecky was awarded a goal after his high shot appeared to go off the crossbar. Further review of video tape after the game, it appeared that the puck did not enter the net.
J.F. Racine then came in to replace Aubin to start the third period, and just over three minutes in, Williams fired a high wrist shot from just inside the blue line that beat Howard to make it 5-3. At that point, Joey MacDonald came in to replace Howard. McDonell would score a power play goal six minutes into the period to make it 5-4. The 37 seconds later, Meech fired a high shot over the net off the glass, which then bounced on the top of the net. The net was then knocked off and the puck bounced down on the ice and rolled over the line. It was called a goal and tied the game 5-5. Again, reviewing the video tape, the net appeared to be well off before the puck crossed the line.
With 37 seconds left, Darryl Bootland fired a quick pass in front to MacLean who snapped a quick shot over the shoulder of Racine for what would be the game winning goal.
Howard stopped 25 shots while MacDonald made 4 saves in the win. Aubin stopped 18 shots with Racine blocking 11 in the loss.
Toronto was 1 for 7 on the power play while the Griffins were 2 for 9.

From a Toronto Marlies press release:
The Marlies got a good chance to work on their penalty killing against the AHL's best power play, and it worked.
Killing off a pair of 5 on 3 advantages, Toronto battled their way to a 5-3 win over the North division leading Griffins in Grand Rapids.
Brad Leeb (19) had two goals extending his scoring streak to five games while Jay Harrison (7), Colin Murphy (5) and John Pohl (22) added solos.
Eric Manlow (14), Eric Himelfarb (4) and Jiri Hudler (22) scored for the Griffins.
The Marlies were tested in the first with a 5 on 3 advantage which they staved off in a scoreless period. Grand Rapids got on the board first in the second when Manlow scored a short handed goal when his high wrist shot handcuffed J.S. Aubin to make it 1-0. Toronto responded on the power play midway through the period when Harrison snuck in from the point and tipped a cross crease pass from Murphy past Joey MacDonald to make it 1-1. Himelfarb would put the Griffins back up 2-1 on the power play two minutes later. The Marlies would again respond when Murphy tipped a Harrison point shot in with just under two minutes to go in the period to make it 2-2. Then Pohl made a great play to keep the puck in the Griffins zone and set up Leeb for a one time shot from the slot with 15 seconds left to make it 3-2 Toronto.
In the third, Leeb scored an early power play goal for a 4-2 lead. Hudler cut the lead to 4-3 just over six minutes in. With the net empty, Pohl sent a clearing attempt from his own zone down the ice into the empty net with 37 seconds left to seal the win.
Aubin finished with 30 saves while MacDonald stopped 32. Toronto was 3 for 9 on the power play while Grand Rapids was 1 for 8.

From a Marlies Press Release:
It was just one of those days for the Marlies and only fitting that the game would be as wild as the events that the led up to the game.
Toronto rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to score five unanswered goals and hang on for a 5-4 win over the Wolves in Chicago at Allstate Arena.
John Pohl (21) and Brad Leeb (16) each had a pair of goals while Colin Murphy (4) added a single in his return to the line-up.
Billy Tibbets (10), Stephen Baby (5), Derek McKenzie (1) and Braydon Coburn (5) scored for the Wolves.
Toronto's day began at 6am when they departed their hotel in San Antonio, Texas for a morning flight to Chicago. The plane was delayed for 30 minutes on the runway waiting to take-off, due to a confusion in the cargo weight on the flight. After arriving in Chicago at 11am, the team reported to their hotel for a meal and pre-game nap. Meanwhile, the equipment bags of Bates Battaglia and Brendan Bell were accidentally put on a connector flight. Both bags ended up in Indianapolis, due to the wrong tags being applied to the bags. Luckily for Battaglia, his family is in the area and his brother showed up to the rink with an extra pair of skates and equipment. Bell was left to compile a mixture of gear from scratched players. Just prior to warm-up, Battaglia's gear made it to the rink, but was still wet from the San Antonio game. It took a quick drying session, and Bates was able to go with his own gear by game time. Bell stuck with the mixture. His bag was scheduled to arrive first thing Sunday morning in Chicago, in time for the Marlies trip to Milwaukee. All the travel excitement set-up a wild game.
The Wolves got on the board first 53 seconds in the game when Paul Dwyer shot a puck from the corner that went off the skate of Tibbets and past J.S. Aubin to make it 1-0. Eleven minutes later, Baby used Dominic D'Amour as a screen and let a quick wrist shot go, that went off Aubin's glove and in to make it 2-0. The Marlies were outshooting the Wolves 12-3 at that point. Paul Maurice made a goaltending change as J.F. Racine came in to the game. Pohl would get the Marlies on the board, putting the puck through the legs of Michael Garnett to make it 2-1. Toronto out shot Chicago 17-6 in the period.
The Marlies tied the game in the second, when Leeb scored his first of the game when he slapped at a loose puck in the face-off circle that made its way through a screen. Pohl added his second of the game five minutes later on the power play when the Marlies used some nice passing between everyone on the ice to finish the play. Murphy made it 4-2 Toronto when Ben Ondrus set him up alone in front from behind the net. Leeb would add his second of the game short-handed when his harmless wrist shot fooled Garnett and caught the top corner of the net. It was the fifth unanswered goal for the Marlies and chased Garnett from the goal. Adam Berkhoel came in to the game. Chicago made it 5-3 when MacKenzie burried a cross-ice pass in front with 15 seconds to go in the second.
In the third, the Wolves pressed all period to even the score. Coburn would score one minute into the third when his point shot found its way along the ice past Racine to make it 5-4. Despite constant pressure, Racine and the Marlies shut the door and hung on for their first road win in 2006. Chicago out shot Toronto 20-5 in the third.
Racine made 32 saves for the win, Garnett stopped 20 in the loss. The Marlies were 3 for 6 on the power play while the Wolves were 0 for 4.

Maybe it was the name change on the building but Martin Sonnenberg scored in overtime to give the Rampage a 4-3 victory over the Marlies in front of 5,162 at the AT&T Center.
Toronto put 37 shots on David LeNeveu, while the Rampage only sent 28 J.S. Aubins way and allowed the Marlies five power play chances. San An did managed to capitalize one of their two power play attempts in the third when Pavel Brendl found the net with Bates Battaglia off for the Marlies for Holding.
Tim Jackman recorded a goal and an assist for San Antonio. Mike Bishai also tallied for the home team.
"Well," said Rampage assistant coach Gord Dineen in this moring's edition of the Express News, "this wasn't beautiful hockey. But we found a way to win."
Prior to the game, the Rampage signed former Everblade defenseman Ed Hill and right wing Justin Cox to professional tryout agreements.

From a Marlies Press Release:
Sometimes you can get caught up in the standings when facing an opponent. Other times, it's the opponent that gets caught up facing you.
The Marlies rallied twice in their first game of a three-in-three weekend, but fell short dropping a 4-3 overtime decision to the San Antonio Rampage at the AT&T Center.
Mike Bishai (7), Tim Jackman (3), Pavel Brendl (10) and Martin Sonnenberg (10) scored for San Antonio. Brad Leeb (14), Kris Newbury (12) and Martin Sagat (5) responded for the Marlies.
The Rampage opened the scoring in the first by capatalizing on their best scoring chance, when Bishai snapped a quick shot over the glove of J.S. Aubin to make it 1-0. Jackman then made it 2-0 just over three minutes into the third, just moments after a Newbury goal was called off, as the official lost sight of a loose puck before it was shot into the net.
Toronto would respond five minutes later when Leeb took a feed from Bates Battaglia and fired a quick snap shot past David LeNeveu to make it 2-1. Newbury tied the game five minutes later, when he spun around and slapped a puck on end past LeNeveu from the face-off circle to make it 2-2.
In the third, Brendl would give the Rampage the lead after some nice work by Pascal Rheaume to take a hit and then feed the puck from behind the goal to Brendl at the side of the net to make it 3-2. Sagat would even the score with seven minutes to go, when he came out from the corner and snapped a high shot over the shoulder of LeNeveu.
In overtime, Sonnenberg was sprung on a breakaway. Jay Harrison raced to catch up and in the ensuing battle for the puck, lost his stick. As Sonnenberg drove the goal, he tried to cut from his right to left and as he did, the loose stick of Harrison caught the puck and redirected it over the arm of Aubin and it for an unfortunate break in OT.
LeNeveu made 34 saves for the win, while Aubin stopped 24 shots in the loss.
Toronto was 1 for 5 on the power play while the Rampage were 1 for 2.

From a Toronto Marlies Toronto Marlies Press Release:
The Marlies can now start looking ahead to their most daunting road trip of the season as the home portion of their January schedule came to a close with a 4-1 win over the Rochester Americans this afternoon in Toronto. The Marlies have started the 2006 calendar year with three straight victories by defeating division rivals Cleveland, Manitoba and the Amerks this week. The team now departs for Texas with a 20-16-1-0 record and are four games above the .500 mark for the first time this season.
After a scoreless first period, Kris Newbury got the home-side on the board when his low shot beat Rochester starting goaltender Michael Leighton for a 1-0 lead at 1:14 of the middle stanza. Newbury's 11th of the season was a power-play marker with assists credited to Ian White and Brett Engelhardt. Jay Harrison made it 2-0 when he blasted home a shot from just inside the Rochester blue line at 7:57 for his sixth of the year. Newbury picked-up the lone assist on that goal and was later recognized with first-star honours for his efforts. Dustin Johner cut the Toronto lead in half when he scored his first goal of the campaign, on the power-play, at 13:14. The Florida Panthers prospect was appearing in only his tenth game with the Amerks, after having started the season with Las Vegas of the East Coast Hockey League.
With the Americans pressing for the equalizer in the early stages of the third period, forward Chris St. Jacques broke in alone and beat Leighton with a nice wrist shot at the 8:50 mark. After tallying three assists in three games with the Marlies earlier this season, St. Jacques' goal was the first of his AHL career. Tyler Beechey sealed the Marlies win when he scored his 7th goal of the year, and third of the weekend, on a rising slapshot with 5:08 remaining in regulation-time. Jean-Sebastien Aubin made 25 saves to earn the victory in goal, in front of 4,109 delighted fans at Ricoh Coliseum.

From a Toronto Marlies Press Release
The Manitoba Moose proved to be a formidable opponent for the fourth straight time earlier this evening at Ricoh Coliseum. The difference in this meeting was that the result gave Toronto two points in the league standings for the first time this season. After dropping three consecutive one-goal decisions to their Canadian rivals, the Marlies managed to win a game in which they never trailed, defeating the Moose 5-4 in overtime in front of 5,235 fans.
The Marlies opened the scoring when Tyler Beechey snapped a shot over the left shoulder of Manitoba starting netminder Sebastien Centomo at 18:24 of the opening period. The goal came while Toronto was in the midst of enjoying a five-minute power-play moments after Moose Mike Brown was ejected for instigating a fight with Toronto's Brad Leeb. It appeared that Toronto would take the 1-0 lead to the intermission but Manitoba's Jesse Schultz stole an errant pass at mid-ice and lifted a wrist shot over the Marlies' Jean-Francois Racine to tie the game at 1-1 with six seconds remaining in the opening frame.
Defenceman Andy Wozniewski restored the Toronto lead when he scored his second goal of the season 2:46 into the middle stanza. Assists were credited to Kris Newbury and Ben Ondrus. Ondrus made it 3-1 for the Marlies when he banged in the rebound of a Brendan Bell point-shot at 16:45 of the second period. Craig Darby pulled the Moose to within 3-2 exactly two minutes later.
Newbury restored the Marlies two-goal lead when he converted Brendan Bell's pass from just inside the Moose blue-line 69 seconds into the third period. Ben Ondrus picked-up an assist, for his third point of the evening, on Newbury's tenth goal of the season. A late-game collapse helped the Moose tie the score at 4-4 when Jesse Schultz and defenceman Prestin Ryan scored 44 seconds apart with under seven minutes to play in regulation-time.
The only shot of the extra-session came at 60:40 of the contest when Tyler Beechey converted a Brett Engelhardt feed from 15 feet out to give the Marlies the victory. Beechey was named the game's first-star for his two-goal effort.
